Rent car Sevilla Spain onward to Cordoba,Granada

4 traveling companions want to rent a car in Sevilla to go to Cordoba, Granada and drop car off at Granada Airport. There are so many agencies. I noted Auto Europe mentioned on this site; negatives with carrent and sixt. Does anyone know anything about Eouropcar/spain; carhire spain, economy car rentals.com? Our other couple has AMEX and covers the insurance! They even let an alternate driver not on Amex card drive (since we drive shift cars all the time). Please share the success you have had with any of these agencies. I would like to pre-book. Would it be a mistake to book when we get to Sevilla? We currently have a driver taking us around, boring and expensive!

I've never had a problem with Auto Europe and since we can both drive a stick never encountered that issue either. As to the AmEx card's insurance coverage remember you may be reimbursed later but out cash up front (which can be alot and may, in some instances, include the time your rental car is out of service being repaired although rare). I've got an AmEx card myself and Visa covers me as well. Still, we always get CWG, always.

Great point, Marie! I am sending your excellent insights to our other traveling couple. She is renting the car...we are drivers. Want all to be safe, no issues! My Spanish nephew suggested Europcar and so did our a travel agent friend; we will check that one out also. Gives us a reputable choice of 2! Muchas gracias para todos!

Gemut.com is a US based company that guarantees the lowest rates, prepaid in $US. I have used them a couple of times and they are great.

Karen, rent now, and then watch prices. Usually you will get your best price the earlier you rent. If you can get better a deal latter, cancel your 1st rental and rent from another agency. (read the cancelation policy.) AutoEurope is a broker, just like Gemut. Both are wonderful to deal with. You can also get good prices using Kayak. AE will match anyone's price. We usually use AE. We love the fact that we can go to their web site and sort thru their many options, noting the differences in prices, and picking the best combination of options. (ie If you pick up your car at an airport or train station the charges can be quite high, but if it does not seem to make any difference where you drop it off) And we like the fact that we can call them up in Maine, and ask them any questions that we may have. In June we rented from AutoEurope.UK because we got a "better deal" for our rental in Spain. But the additional charges ate up our savings. Even though we read the fine print in the contract, not all of the charges were totally spelled out. We have NEVER had that problem with AE in the US (A.E..com) Whatever you do, read the fine print in the contract, then compare ALL of the costs to get your final "true" cost. BTW, for 4 people, and their luggage, a small station wagon has worked well for us. (IE Ford Focus wagon, etc.) Bring your GPS with you, a small fold-out Michelin map of Spain , and a compass. Many of the East-West roads are NOT on the GPS, and we had to navigate from town to town using the map. Make sure you brinbg your drivers license, and International Drivers Permit, that you picked up at your local AAA assn. office.
