Rent car in Italy drop off in Austria

Hi,
I was wondering how I could rent a car in Italy and drive to Austria? All of the on-line places I have found so far do not give me these options. Do anyone have an idea of where I can search for prices on-line?

Thanks!

If you can the drop off charges may be horrendous. consider drop off in Italy and train it to somewhere in Germany or Austria then pick up another car. I know a routing chg is a lot of work but sometimes that is what is necessary.I had the sam eprob in Aug 2007.
or call/e a car rental agency like www.autoeurope.com

Maryalice - Autoeurope is the best place to start your research. Www.Autoeurope.com.

Their website will let you price options: pick up in Italy, drop in Austria; Pick up in Rome, drop in Venice, then train to Salzburg and pick up another rental there. The one thing Autoeurope can be unclear about is the drop charge for picking up in one country and dropping in another. You'll need to confirm with a human on their 24 hour 800 line.

Understand that Autoeurope is a US-based consolidator. They work with the rental agencies in Europe to get the best deals and they will match competing offers. Once you rent with them, they have a toll-free number to call back to the States if you have any problems with your rental.

Hi Maryalice,
... In our not-too-recent experience we could get to anywhere within Austria by rail and/or Postbus. We had Eurail passes at that time and Postbus was an extra expense. However, Postbus fares were consistently economical. The service perfectly adequate and dependable.
