Rent a car or use Uber?

We are traveling to Faro, Portugal in early June for 8 days. I have read different ideas about renting a car, using the local bus system or my daughter suggesting use Uber. Thus, I am still undecided whether to rent a car for a few of the days to see west of Faro... Lagos and east to Tavira. We will make a long day separately for seeing each town. Your experiences or thoughts?

However you decide to go, look at the Daytrip.com website and see the stops that they provide if you go with them. Maybe something will interest you and you can find a more affordable way to do it. Just a tool to discover whats in the neighborhood.

For an 8-day stay, I’d probably avoid renting a car for the entire trip if you’re mainly staying around Faro. For the two longer day trips to Lagos and Tavira, I’d compare the total cost and convenience of a rental car against public transportation and Uber.

A rental makes more sense to me if you want flexibility with your timing or want to make additional stops along the way. If you’re only visiting the main towns and don’t mind working around schedules, public transportation can be simpler.

I’d also check Uber availability and estimated fares for your specific travel dates rather than assuming it will always be the most convenient option. For two separate day trips, comparing the options individually may give you a better answer than choosing one transportation method for the whole trip.

Google Maps says there is train service between these cities. In addition to Daytrip, as mentioned previously, try AirBnB Experiences for day tours out of any of these cities.
