Renfre - Spain

I'm having trouble with the renfre website. The information I've read in books, etc indicates that the train runs between Madrid and San Sebastian several times daily...yet I cannot book on the website and get messages saying nothing is available between those cities on any day in April. Is it too far ahead? Am I ok to just buy the tickets when I get there?

Any advice/information would be helpful.

Thanks!!

I'm getting trains available on that route until Saturday, 16 April, then nothing. Chances are they're preparing their summertime schedule and haven't leaded it in yet. Keep trying until they load them in. It'll be worth your while....second class tickets at 52 Euro can be had for as little as 21 Euro if you book them over the web.

Hooray - it appears the schedule is now up...I can see available schedule for April 24th between Madrid and San Sebastian.

Next question, I only see a 52 Euro price. Is there a way to find out online if less expensive tickets are available?

Thanks for your help!

Lauren...how are you accessing the site? When you use the English version, you will really only get basic prices listed....you have to click on "Buy Tickets" at the top of the page, and you'll go to the ticket ordering page, which is only in Spanish. Or short-circuit all that, and simply leave it in Spanish to begin with.
I see Web fares from 21 Euro and Estrella fares from 31 Euro for the 24th. If you need assistance working your way through the Spanish, let me know.

If you want directions for buying on the Spanish RENFE site, there are very detailed instructions in a post on the Tripadvisor Madrid Forum. I found them extremely useful (along with Norm's great advice on this forum) for making my first RENFE purchase last week.
