I have to purchase my Mad-Bcn tickets on Monday as it is the 62nd day prior to my travel....Is there any advantage to purchasing the next class up from tourist? In the maribel guides she says that the next class up includes a meal and a cordial. What is evervyones recommendation for this. If we purchase the tourist class what kind of food do the sell and what are the prices?

Snack foods and sandwiches, 3 or 4 Euro. But you're only on the train for 2.75 hours. The meal isn't worth 22 Euro more....just purchase something before you leave and take it with you. There's a restaurant and a bar/restaurant in Atocha station that'll provide what you need.
BTW, if Monday is the 62nd day, try purchasing around 7 pm your time on Sunday night. That'll be after midnight Spain time, so the new fares will be available then. If not all fares show up by 7 pm, wait another 30 minutes or so and try again...you'll get the jump on everyone else!
