Renfe- child tickets

Trying to book Renfe tickets for my family.
My child is 3

I know that he travels free with a ticket if he shares a seat with an adult but i Guess that’d be a tad uncomfortable for a few hours.

But I also remembered reading that a seat will be 40% off for a child seat on the same journey?

Upon trying to book, i can’t get to find the child seat fare. It’s the same adult fare I’d pay.

Does a promo fare not have a further discount for child?

Thanks

The 40% applies to Base fares, not Promo ones. Always worth checking if base with 40% off is actually cheaper than the promo discounted ticket. In which case obviously you can switch type. Equally the promo discount might be much more than 40% - some are as high as 75%
