I have been trying periodically to buy tickets from Granada to Barcelona from the Renfe website for the last couple of days, but it seems to be not working.
Anyone else having this problem or know anything about it? I would really like to purchase these tickets ASAP for the lowest price possible (so I don't really want to go with 3rd party sites, but I guess if Renfe is being weird for an indeterminate period of time....)
I had a similar experience last year. I tried probably 20-30 times before it finally worked. Each time I tried it would advance a couple of screens and then stop. Finally it worked and the tickets did work when I got to Spain. Wish I could have better news for you. Keep trying!!
Gino, Renfe is notoriously difficult. Generally the problem is that it won't take American credit cards. There are detailed instructions on Tripadvisor ( Madrid forum) but I found the most important thing to be registering my credit card with Verified by Visa. That in addition to calling your bank to advise of a foreign purchase so they don't block it. But not all cards can be registered with Verified by Visa, so sometimes that is not the solution. People have suggested that some computers just don't work, although I was able to purchase both on a Mac with Firefox and a PC with Internet Explorer. Recently someone said Google Chrome worked for her. If all efforts still fail, you can use the Spanish travel agency Petrabax. They add a small handling fee, but they don't seem to resist American credit cards like Renfe does. Are you sure you don't want to just fly?
