Renault Eurodrive looks great ... is it for real?

A two part question... 1. We've rented cars in europe many times, but only 5-6 days at a time. We're renting for 22 days this time, picking up in Barcelona, returning in Paris. I've looked at rental agencies (budget, Sixt, Europcar, etc) - all cost WAY more than leasing through Renault. Plus, all the extras (CDWs, deductibles, etc) are included with Renault - it looks too good to be true - what am I missing? 2. The Renault lease includes a Carminat TomTom. We've always used our Garvin - is this TomTom good? It would be nice to not have to carry another device with charger. Thanks.

TomTom is a well-respected European brand of GPS. It's what I use in my car, and it's very reliable.

It just depends upon the itinerary and length of a trip. When I looked at the programs from Renault and Peugeot for our month-long trip to France last summer, renting turned out to be the better deal for us. We flew into and out of Barcelona, so the out-of-France charge hit twice, driving up the lease cost. In your case, the different country drop fee is probably adding substantially to the rental quotes. Another possibility is to take the train from Barcelona to Perpignan and pick up a rental car there to avoid the big drop fee. As for TomTom, my son got one with his rental in France and was happy with it.

We have used Renault Eurodrive in the past and were extremely Pleased with everything. New car, unlimited mileage, full insurance coverage, Road assistance, great deal if you need a car for a long period of time. I have a Tomtom and I like it so far. Have a great trip!

What might be skewing the picture is the pick-up in Spain with a drop in France for the straight rentals. Try seeing what happens if you take the train up to Perpignan and rent a car there. I rent about three times a year, for roughly a month at a time, and have never found the lease programs to have a better bottom line.

For the past several years we have used Auto France for our 17 day or more car lease purchases in Europe, they have excellent service, new Peugeots, complete insurance, unlimited mileage, pick up/drop off in all major cities, no VAT tax and road side assistance is included. CHECK THEM OUT AT www.autofrance.net

Thanks to all for your replies and experiences. Looks like it's a Go for us - just need to decide between the Renault or the Peugeut program.

I've leased a Renault. Everything worked as advertised. The car was perfect for us............................Picking up in A'dam was better than dropping in Rome.......................................... The A'dam guy, while dressed flamboyantly (black fingernails, pink hair, multiple piercings), met us where and when we agreed............................................ We dropped at the Rome airport and the person we were supposed to meet was more than an hour late (at his kiosk in the airport).

I also have a TomTom that works well. If it comes with a TomTom,I wouldn't bring your Garvin. It might be good to go online and look at the features TomTom provides. As I recall they have video demonstrations on their site (not quite a manual but helpful).

Will: Renault Eurodrive is the real deal. You cannot beat the value. I have done this lease back program twice and was very satisfied with the entire process. I even got a dent in the the door - no problem - insurance covered all. Have fun.
