Reliable, Inexpensive Air Travel Over Europe

Hi Folks, I am investigating reliable inexpensive European air companies. Ryan Air has been recommended to me twice. However, I just Googled Ryan Air and found a site written by a traveler who has had multiple horrible experiences with them. I looked at his recommendations and found this listing for easyJet http://www.easyjet.com/en/book/index.asp. I'm wondering if anyone has traveled with them and would offer an opinion or has had great experiences with other inexpensive European airlines. (I am traveling from London to Switzerland.) Thank you! Sharon

Easy Jet www.easyjet.com

Will fly from London Gatwick, Luton and Standsted to either Geneva or Zurich ( Gatwick to Geneva and Luton to Zurich)

Easy Jet is similar to Southwest airlines in the states.

I fly with this airline often to Berlin and Geneva.

There are no extras here. You will have to pay for checked luggage should you have some.

I have had nothing but nice flights with them .

For some reason, my post yesterday has disappeared, so I'll try again. I love EasyJet, and I have traveled (with no problems) with RyanAir. As long as you can manage their rules (baggage allowances, deadlines for check-in, etc.) you should be fine.

My husband has used Tuifly and AirBerliner and we got great prices on them. He found both fine and had no problems.
I have decided to try Vueling air from Paris to Rome this summer, their reviews are very good.
To check out reveiws I just google.

There are quite a few cheapo airlines in europe, depending on where they fly etc. Do note which airports they use, some fly into really inconvenient airports that can be as much as 50 or more kms from the city you think you are flying into with poor transportation options and expense assiociated with that. Sometimes it is worth it to pay an extra 30 euros for a flight on another airline that used the better airports.

I've flown Ryanair several times to several destinations. Apart from their very, very strict baggage allowance and the seat pitch that's too short for a 5'8 person I can't complain at all. AirBerlin.com are definitely much better though as they fly from and two real airports and offer much better service. On Ryanair "Frankfurt" is an airport 90mins from Frankfurt, so is their Paris, Düsseldorf, Barcelona etc. Just be careful.

Sharon, it really all depends on where you're trying to go. If you have options I'd not choose RyanAir, mostly because I continue to hear really bad things about them on this message board - more than other airlines. But they're all about the same from what I've heard. I have no experience flying any of these companies. My opinion is based off of what I've heard on this Helpline over the past 6 months.

My real concern with RyanAir is that they fly from secondary airports which are often quite a distance from the cities they claim to serve. For example, they fly from Paris Beavuais, which is out in the middle of nowhere, and Frankurt Hahn, 45 minutes from Frankfurt, while Easyjet flies to Orly and DeGaulle and most other major airports. Be sure to factor in travel costs/time when deciding what airline is actually cheaper.

David, I wish Hahn was only 45 minutes from Frankfurt. The best I've ever done to Hahn from downtown Frankfurt was 60 minutes. This was at 4am for a 6.30am flight. During the day it takes between 90 and 120 minutes to get to "Frankfurt"-Hahn ;-) The funny thing is that Hahn really only is 15 to 20 minutes from Bernkastel-Kues and the Mosel river valley. But they don't seem to understand it. If they were called Mosel airport they could actually win thousands of new customers/visitors...
