Reims to Amiens

Does anyone know of a direct train or bus from Reims to Amiens in northern France? Most train routes I found require a transfer and station change in Paris. The one other one allowed only 5 minutes between trains. And I've found NO bus route between the cities [INVALID] or even a local bus company for the area. Thanks!

Bruce, I don't believe there's a DIRECT train between those two cities. However, one change in Paris is not too bad, so that's certainly one option. One of the routes uses Bus from CDG to Amiens. According to the route description "Runs as TGV 5420 up to Aeroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle TGV, then as TGV 5421". From TGV Haute Picardie, the trip to Amiens is a 35 minute Bus ride. Hopefully one of our rail experts will have a more direct solution for you. Cheers!

Unfortunately the French rail network is very biased towards journeys from Paris to other cities, and routes avoiding Paris often have very slow and inconvenient timings. There is very little in the way of bus routes between cities. Unfortunately, you will probably have to go via Paris, although if you are going from Rheims to Amiens you will probably be transferring from Gare de l'Est to Gare du Nord, and those two stations are in easy walking distance unless you have very heavy luggage or mobility issues.

Ken and Philip, Thank you very much for your replies. There seems to be no easy way between Reims and Amiens, but at least there are options. Thanks! Bruce

Bruce, not knowing the exact dates of travel I made up a date - I found many routes going through either Laon (5 min trans) or Tergnier (10 min trans). At least one of those is a direct train requiring 0 connections (through Laon). They're all about €23, and Laon only has 5 tracks, so a 5 min trans will be fine. There's only 4 tracks in Tergnier, so a 10 min trans is fine here also. I don't even think you have to use stairs to go over or under the tracks here, either...Do you have exact dates figured out yet, or at least an idea of when you want to travel?

As indicated by the above posts, the train from Reims to Paris ends at Gare de l'Est,... the train for Amiens leaves from Gare du Nord. The easiest way to reach Gare du Nord is to exit at the right and go up those stairs. With heavy luggage you can go around by exiting from the main entrance, go down one block, make a right...you'll see Gare du Nord. It's about 2 blocks extra than doing the stairs route.

Only when I looked a Deutsche Bahn did I get ANY trains via Paris; the French website doesn't show any of those. Sometimes, DB works a 'little' hard to piece together a train route...but it is nice to know your options sometimes. On the other hand, Trenitalia often shows more, and better, routes than DB.........DB is great for getting started, but always go to the actual country's train site in order to get prices or to actually purchase a ticket. Only THEY have the discounts, too...

I believe you can still take a non-TGV train from Paris Nord to Amiens, visited the city couple of times but the most thorough time as a day trip was in Aug. of 1989...a very nice, interesting, and historical place, especially where the Somme River goes through the city.

Judy is correct that there is a direct train with that number. I verified on the French SNCF site. Choosing a random Friday in July, I did get slightly different times, however:Reims 11:21 arriving Amiens 13:42. You'll need to check for the date you want.
This is a regional train, a TER, so no seats are ever reserved. You should have no problem getting a seat.

It is true that all trains seem to leave from Paris, but I am looking at my direct ticket for Amiens to Reims. I can't imagine that there would not be a train going in the opposite direction (but I could be overestimating my imagination). Travel time is 2:03.
