Hi Michael. Try typical sites like Expedia or Kayak. Often the major airlines are competitive for these routes. (For instance, random date of June 13; British Airways non stop London to Rome $109.) Then check whichbudget.com and put in your cities; it will show discount airlines such as ryan air (bad reputation), easyjet (good reputation), etc. On the discount airlines, read the fine print to be aware of airport, booking fees, baggage charges, etc.
Enjoy your trip!

Look directly at Easyjet . I am using them this summer flying from Barcelona to Paris , for two people , everything in, came to 98 euros! Note the luggage limit is much lower for inter europeon flights and you pay to check a bag,, but even with paying the extra to check a bag I still got a great deal. I would be careful using some cheapo airlines, make sure they use decent airports,, for instance, Ryanair uses Beauvais for Paris,, but Beauvais is almost 100 kilometers from the city , no direct train , so a pain to arrive at .
Easyjet uses decent airports usually. With cheapo airlines, book directly with them, read everything , ( no they will not fudge if your suitcase is an inch to big to carry on, and they have huge charges if bag is overweight) ,, I travel light but still always pay to check a bag as paying ahead is half the price of having to pay at the airport.

Michael, You can use This Website to get an idea which airlines operate on each route that you're considering. I always try to travel with EasyJet when possible, as I've always found the service to be good. I travelled with them last year, and have two flights already booked for my trip this year. When travelling with any budget airline in Europe, BE SURE to read the "Terms & Conditions" carefully, especially related to luggage weights. If your checked luggage will be over the allowable weight, it's better to pay the charges at the time of booking rather than when you check-in at the airport, as the cost will be considerably lower. Also note that most European airlines only allow ONE carry-on item. That doesn't mean "one plus a personal item such as a Purse or Laptop case", it literally means one only of the approved size! In my experience, they often check the size. For travel from London to Florence, you could use EasyJet to Pisa and then train to Florence OR Meridiana from LGW to Florence. For travel from London to Rome, your best bet is EasyJet from LGW to FCO. Happy travels!
