Just wanted to share my recent experience canceling a budget airline ( Spirit). I knew when I booked it, it was non-refundable, but it was not too expensive ($213 included our bags). It was for a flight from Orlando to San Juan, PR, for a cruise we were set to take. Well, CDC has now advised against cruising even if vaccinated, and the cruise was canceled. I figured I should at least get the money for my bags back ($60), but after speaking via text with the airline, they offered me nothing. So I disputed with paypal, citing the CDC guidelines and I WON! Got a refund of $60. So I was very happy indeed and kinda wished I had disputed the whole amount.
What about a refund for arrival and departure taxes? Did you look into that maybe?
What cruise line were you on? I just flew to San Juan and am having an absolutely lovely time aboard Explorer of the Seas. It is sailing with just 42% of its passenger capacity and it is extremely easy to maintain social distancing. Passengers are following all safety protocols, masking, etc. We’ve made every port.
I am a little surprised the CDC warning was enough, because on that basis a cancelled flight to Europe should have the same refund results. At any rate, I am sorry your cruise was cancelled and glad you were able to recover at least some of your airfare costs.
Sorry your cruise was cancelled, Tammy.
