Recovering $200 drop in airfare after ticketing?

I booked my open-jaw DFW-FRA outbound and CDG-DFW back on AA.com about 3-4 weeks ago. Now, 12 days from departure, the fare has dropped by $200! Any way to recoup some of the difference?

You probably won't get any adjustment, but it's worth a call to see. Otherwise, if your original tickets are refundable, you could buy new tickets and cash the old ones.

This happened to me last year on United. I called, and they gave me a voucher to use on a future flight.

it's a pain, cuz you have to go to the airport to use the voucher, but to me $200 is worth the hassle.

not sure how AA is, but United was great! All I did was call customer service, tell them the issue, and the agent had no hesitation in offering me the voucher.(it came in the mail a week later - good for up to one year from date of issue)

no money back...once they have it...they keep it!

Isn't United rated #1 for customer service among American airlines?

You can't blame an airline for discounting tickets a few days before departure, and face it, you would not have wanted to wait until now to buy. But still, you can contact them, particularly if you have an active frequent flyer account, and see what you can do. The other option is if there is a change fee attached to your tickets, some are non-refundable/no change; but if for $50 they would make a change, the change can be in price (basically cancel and re-book)

The airlines have many different classes of service within coach class. For example the ticket you bought may have been issued in a class of service such as Q, W, or some other. The class of service for the new lower fare may be H or some other letter. However, if you call the airline or the issuing travel agent, they may be able to rebook your flights in the class of service needed for the lower fare and re-issue your ticket at the lower fare minus the cost of the "change/re-issue fee". It's worth checking at least. Hope that helps.

I feel your pain - I just noticed my ticket dropped $120 for my trip in November. You can call AA and ask for a travel voucher, assuming the cheaper fare is still available. It will most likely be the difference in price minus $100, so you'll get a $100 voucher. They will most likely credit it to your FF account on AA.com
