Recommendations on train travel in Germany and surrounding countries

In August I plan to travel with a friend to the following cities: Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt and Prague over a two week period. Does any have suggestions whether it is best to purchase each of the connecting train tickets individually or invest in the Eurail pass?
