Recent experiences with Europcar?

I'm looking at a couple of short (24 hours) rentals for an upcoming trip (one day in Spain, and another day in Morocco). We're renting through Gemut.com for a longer rental on this trip, but Andy said he couldn't help me with these two short ones, so I'm looking on the intertoobs...

Europcar seems to be the best bet in both cases. The rates look good, and the locations are convenient. AutoEurope had nothing available (which seemed odd, since AFAIK AutoEurope is a consoldator while Europcar is one company that's often used by AutoEurope...).

In any case, Europcar looks like the obvious choice for me for these two short rentals. Has anyone here had any recent experiences (good or bad) renting from them?
Thanks.

We used Europcar in France this May. Had no problems at all. My only disappointment was that I had requested a car with diesel, but instead got a car that used gas. No big deal.

EuropCar is a fine company. Its roughly equivalent to Avis in the US...

We used Europcar out of Venice in May 2007. Very nice car. Did not charge for a GPS at that time. Probably will now. Our travel agent uses the consolidator Auto Europe and they got us a mid-sized car from Europcar. We drove it all over Italy- no problem. The GPS was in Italian, though. We needed some help in changing it to English. We take our own GPS now.

Summer 2007 I rented from Gemut that ended up being Europcar. Everything was fine until I wanted to return the car at CDG Paris. It was terrible. No one to accept my vehicle, then I went in terminal had to wait 1 hr for help. And Europcar rep said I did not need a receipt for return. I pushed for one and got a hand written note. 24 hours later I had a 2 calls in Calif. that asked where was the vehicle. What a pain! and I will never accept a europcar rental again.

Well, gosh JS, where were you an hour ago when I was busy booking two rentals through Europcar?

Just kidding. I did make my booking through them, though.

Thanks for the heads-up with your negative experience returning. I will take extra care to make sure that the return phase goes well (that should be easy for one of the two rentals, as we will be returning to the same place we pick up the car, just 24 hours later; neither is an airport location).

We have been very pleased with Europcar including rentals in Switzerland, Italy, and New Zealand. Also, we used them in Spain and Portugal earlier this year. We have rented directly and also thru Autoeurope. No troubles so far.

We rented a car in Amboise last week from them...it was fine...we had to wait 20 min for a taxi to come get us since it was a little out of the way, but no issues with Europcar.
