Receiving a trenitalia e-ticket

I successfully booked a regional train ticket on the Trenitalia website, but I never received the e-mail confirmation with the PDF of the ticket to print out. Now I don't know what to do. How do I call their customer service? There is a six digit number and a twelve digit number listed on the website. Which do I call ? What is the country code? Will they speak English?

Did you get ANY email from Trenitalia? The e-ticket doesn't "look" like a train ticket. It looks more like a regular email, but it also includes the 6-character confirmation code. As long as you have the code, that's all you need.

Sheila, the key issue here is that you say you have purchased a REGIONALE ticket through the Trenitalia site. These tickets are handled differently than the example Lee sent you - which is for a high-speed train with assigned seats and a PNR code. Your receipt should look something like this. Unfortunately, you did not get the email, which should come with two attachments; one being your ticket above. To correct this, Trenitalia suggests when calling from abroad, to contact the Call Center use +39 06 6847 5475 . There are English speaking operators (sometimes). Another option is to try and email them at [email protected] and outline your problem. Unfortunately, many folks are reporting they are NOT getting timely email responses. Again, there are no 6-digit PNR codes on the Regionale PDF file. And the tickets is only good for 4 hours after your scheduled train "departs". That's because Regionale tickets purchased online are pre-validated. Because there are no seat assignments for a Regionale train, they never sell out. Thus, there is no real advantage to buying a Regionale ticket online. Whereas a Regionale ticket bought at a train station or kiosk is valid for 2 months, your pre-validated ticket is good for only 4 hours. If you change your mind and want to travel the next day, an online-purchased Regionale ticket would be non-valid. In addition, your must have ID that identifies you as the person who purchased the tickets (the name you registered the tickets under).

I know your priority is just getting the email or the ticket. I hope you did not spend too much as Trenitalia is hopelessly backed up due to the problems with their "revised" website. Unless you have a international phone service like Vonage, your trans-Atlantic call may cost more than the tickets. So check your SPAM or Junk Mail folder. Sometimes Trenitalia emails get diverted. Hopefully you'll find your email there.

Thank you all for this very helpful advice! I did go back on their website to look at our purchased ticket info, and then I clicked on a little plus icon. That led to the details of our reservation and a place where I could select "print receipt and voucher." I gave that a try and accessed two PDFs that look like e-tickets with bar codes. When we get to Rome I'll ask someone to verify that these will serve as tickets, but I think they will. This may be one more quirk of the revised website; it says you will receive the document via e-mail, but actually you can access it right there. Of course, you do have to be preregistered on their site to have the ticket purchase info saved. Good to know that there's no reason to purchase regional train tickets in advance! Live and learn.....

I have just run into the same problem. I did not receive a confirmation e-mail at all from Trenitalia. My friend, who purchased at the same time, did. It would not let me log in with my registration information, so I booked without registering. I will try to e-mail them, but I assume my best route is to call? I have to buy $10 in Skype credit anyway, so it shouldn't be terribly expensive. Just a pain...

Or would it be easier to just call my credit card company, refuse the charge, and book again?
