Hi I received our swiss rail pass from rail europe. It came as a printed ticket - where I thought it would be a credit card style pass for easy swiping at each station. There are blank spots for our passport #s and travel dates. Do we fill in this section or do we have the station attendant do this when we validate our passes in Basel (to Lucerne)? Thanks,

The blank spots must be filled out by Swiss Rail personnel. Validate your pass at any Swiss Rail station with your passport. For train travel with the Swiss Pass, you simply hop on and off trains at will, no need for any kind of fancy card, or waiting in line at the ticket windows.

The Swiss rail agent will put in the passport # and the starting and ending dates for the pass. But if it is a Flex Pass (as opposed to a consecutive-day pass), it will also have little boxes for the actual dates of travel. You fill these in yourself, one at a time, before you get on the first train each day you use the pass.
