My husband and I planned a trip to England leaving Sept 10. Our daughter informed us that we were going to be(unexpected) grandparents Sept 9 or there abouts. Got to love those "adult" children. I had great txs booked on Virgin Atlantic. WE want to re-book for March 2019 and I check prices everyday. I do clean my cookies if that is really important!! On May 1 the prices went from $663 to $1365. Can anyone tell me what my best plan is??!!! I re-booked all of our places to stay with no problem. The flight is the killer. Thanks for any advice!!!!
March 2019 is a long ways away, a lot can change. Better concern is will VA apply what you have paid to a future flight? We had the exact situation but we could not travel within the year United gave us to use our credit. Our travel insurance stepped in and paid for our loses.
A few obvious questions. What does Virgin Atlantic say about your tickets that you want to change? Will they allow this or are you out of pocket? Did you have any sort of trip insurance either that you bought or comes with the credit card you used to purchase the tickets?
There are no guarantees whatsoever, but during the falls of 2016 and 2017, there were multiple opportunities to snag good fares to travel to Europe the following year from at least some origins. That may not work for you if you're starting from a smaller airport, but I would definitely not be panicking yet.
