Which train stop is closest to the Effel tower?
Do you mean Metro stop or train station?
Train stop - we are only touring the city and want to walk about on foot.

I found this map very useful. Plus you can find them at the stations.
great map - thanks! I assume I'll be coming into the Paris Nord station and then take the metro west to Porte Dauphine walk south from there to get to it.
Jennifer,
According to viamichelin.com, it's 2.5km from Porte Dauphine to the Eiffel Tower and the walk will take around 35 minutes. When you get to Trocadero you will have a great view of the tower.
Here's your quickest route: Take the RER B from Gare du Nord to St-Michel Notre-Dame. Transfer to the RER C and take it to Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel. A single t+ ticket costs 1.60 EUR, is good anywhere the metro goes (some lines end in zone 3), and on the RER in zone 1. That ticket allows unlimited transfers until you exit the system.
