Re: obtaining a child's fare on tgv

I went to purchase tickets on tgv for my daughter and I and there wasn't an option for children's fares. She'll be 13 at the time of travel. I would think they'd have child's fares since the regular tickets have ages of 26 -59 on them. Thanks!

If you want to get a Savings fare on the DB site for Paderborn-Koebenhavn, you'll need to book NOW. The DB site shows that on 19 July the 39 EUR fare is still available for a train departing at 13:21, but the best fare for earlier departures is 69 EUR. That's still good, especially since your daughter will ride free as far as Koebenhavn.

By the way, I was confused by your using "TGV" in the heading for your thread. That made me assume that your route was at least partly in France. Judging by his quote, it looks like Steve made the same assumption.

Okay, figured that out - then I went on Bahn.de and tried to find out fare information, found one I liked and it said it couldn't calculate the price for me! Went all the way through to payment information without a fare price. Why does that happen?

Steve is both right and wrong. He's right in printing the quote that shows that children 12 and older are considered to be adults by SNCF, French National Rail.

However, you certainly CAN book a child's fare ticket on tgv-europe.com for someone under 12 (which, of course, doesn't apply in your case).

What is the route you will be traveling and what is your travel date? If you book far enough in advance, you may be able to get discount fares for both you and your daughter.

FYI, if you were taking a train from Paris to Berlin, your first connection would be in Germany and you could book your ticket on the German Rail site. And the German Rail site will allow your daughter to ride free, including the leg from Paris into Germany.

I'm traveling July 19th, Paderborn to Alvesta Sweden. It seems I'll need to take the Bahn to Copenhagen and then take sj Swedish train from Copenhagen to Alvesta. The hard part is making the connection without too long of a wait! I'm trying for one of those 39 euro fares with Bahn and the Swedish leg should only be about the $60-70. Yeah, that was my problem with getting pricing, I was trying to travel too far to be quoted a price. Thanks!

Yeah, I saw that 39 fare, you arrive at 11:pm and the next train out isn't until 4am rather crappy.
