Railpasses/Milk Trains in Germany

I read in Rick Steve's Germany book that there are "Milk trains" running from Koln to Bacharach. From what I've researched it sounds like that is just the term for smaller/local trains. Are these covered by eurorail passes (we have a twin pass 2nd class). Thanks for your help

Your interpretation is correct and yes they are. BTW- "Euro" is the currency; the pass is "Eurail".

If you are using a rail pass anyway, you might find it faster to take an IC from Köln to Koblenz, then a "milk run" (MRB) from Koblenz to Bacharach. Only the milk run trains stop in Bacharach. "Milk Run" trains get their name from years ago (when we had trains), when they stopped at every station on the line to pick up milk from the farmers. In Germany, the trains that stop at every station are the RB (Regional Bahn). MRB are the RB in that area - stands for Mittelrhein Bahn. Germany has a lot of privatized rail lines, most (if not all) operating the milk run trains. Some accept rail passes, some don't. Here is a list of who does or doesn't.
