Does anyone know if there's a restriction regarding how many times you can go in/out of a country using a select railpass? My son visited Europe 2 years ago using a selectpass covering 5 countries/11 days. He swears they were restricted from crossing a border more than once when using such a pass. For ex: if you take train Venice to Munich, then to Vienna, Prague, then want to go to Berlin--since you'd already been in Germany, can't go back into Germany--that your railpass wouldn't be valid. I told him I've never read anything about such a silly restriction but he swears that's how it worked when they were there. Thanks.
I see nothing on the Eurail website or on the Rail Europe website to indicate you can't come back into a country.
However, I have only used a pass twice in nine trips to Europe, and that was a single country (German Rail) pass.
No, that is absolutely not the case. I started and ended a trip in France on a 4 country pass just this february with absolutely no problems. In fact, there is no way they could tell from your pass where the previous days were used, only the date you used them, so there would be no way to check this rule even if it did exist. As long as you are in one of the countries on your pass, it doesn't matter at all where you were on any of the other days of travel.
Thank you for your replies. I thought it sounded ridiculous, but he was very insistent. I also asked a travel agent and she agreed no such restriction.
Just a thought, but what if his pass did not cover the Czech Republic? he may have very well have gotten to Prague OK (though not "legally"), but the pass would not have gotten him to Berlin. Myself, I crossed the German border at least 5 times one trip.
pass doesnt cover prague , you would have to pay extra.
he will be going to Prague, and knows he'll have to buy a separate ticket from border to Prague. Thanks again for everyone's responses. Happy travels!
