Jan, I went on the Deutsch Bahn site (see link under "Favorite Links" above) and for daytime trains found 8:49 to 10:19 hours for trains with 2, 3 or 4 changes. If you go to the same link, you'll be able to figure out if any of those trains would work for you or if you'd prefer to only go part way so you could break up a long train ride.

Last year I went from Obertraun to Hall via Stainach-Irdning. The part from Obertaun to Stainach-Irdning was rather pretty; from there to Hall - not so much. I stayed the night in Hall, then went into Innsbruck and over Brenner Pass to Fortezza, had lunch, and came back to Hall. My feeling is that all the way to Venice is going to be a very long trip. Using the Bahn schedule site, it looks like the routes are either north to Attnang-Puchheim, then through Salzburg and Germany on a corridor Austrian Rail train to Innsbruck to Venice or south via Stainach-Irdning to Villach and from there to Venice by Austrian Rail Intercity bus. All take 9-10 hrs.
