I will be taking a German train to Basel and then changing to the French rail system. I know that there is a separate German rail station in Basel and one that is shared by the Swiss and French systems. Do German trains continue on to the Swiss/French station, or will I need to transfer there on my own?

The chances are very good that your train will stop at Basel Bad Bf and then continue on to Basel SBB. To see for yourself, go to the German Rail site, www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml, and enter your departure point in Germany and your arrival point in France. After you get summary timetables, click on "Show details for all." Then click on "Show intermediate stops" for the departure time of your choice.

Thanks. It looks like it does continue on to the Basel SBB station. I am glad I don't need to walk across town with my luggage.

Just in case, there is a street car line (#2) that runs between the Basel Bad Bhf and Basel SBB. I think the adult fare is 3,20 CHF.
