Planning first trip to France! I'd like to take a train from Paris out towards Brittany, as near as I can get to Carnac-say Rennes. Then pick up a rental car. Then the reverse back to Paris. Is there a train I can take to and from de Gaulle Airport, Paris? Many thanks.

There are a small number of trains per day direct from CDG to Rennes, but it's a matter of luck whether they connect with your flight. Alternatively, you will need to travel to Montparnasse station in central Paris. You can check schedules and book tickets at www.tgv-europe.com (claim to be in Canada or USA so as not to get bumped to the inferior raileurope.com site). Booking trains 90 days in advance can save a great deal of money but you are limited to a single train and if you miss it you have to pay a new full fare. The best ways to get to Montparnasse from CDG are either to take the RER train from CDG to Denfert-Rochereau station in Paris, followed by Metro to Montparnasse. Alternatively there are Air France buses (not limited to Air France air passengers) that run directly from CDG to Montparnasse but they may be more likely to be delayed by traffic.
