Rail protection plan

Is it worth getting? (Buying 3 country 5 day pass)

Two questions:

  1. Would they be offering you this if they didn't make a profit off of it?

  2. Do you wish to contribute more than you already are to their profits?

Even at it's best, which I doubt that this is, insurance is a bad bet. You are betting that you will need this insurance; they are betting that you won't. And they have all the statistics to know what you will need and how much to charge you to make a handy profit.

Unless you can absolutely, positively cannot afford to have this go wrong, "insure it yourself". If you had a box of cigars, would you insure them against arson?

The funny thing with their rail protection plan is that it comes in the form of another sheet of paper. If you lose your first sheet of paper (your rail pass), then you must present the second sheet of paper (the protection plan) in order to get your pass replaced.

Unless you can think of a much more secure way of carrying the protection plan with you than the method you are using to carry your rail pass, it really does not come in too handy.
