Is a rail pass from either Eurail or Rail Europe valid on the trains of any company in Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium? Peter MacRae
IF the rail pass purchased includes those countries then the pass is valid in those countries.
Two things. First, you would need a 5-country pass to be valid in those five countries. Second, if you have the country-specific pass, you can ride the trains in that country. when traveling between countries, the countries must share a border. If you must travel through a country where your pass is not valid, you will pay extra to do it. Even if the train doesn't stop in that country, you will usually pay extra. For example, if your train routing goes into France or Switzerland to get to your next country, you may have to pay extra.
Eurail passes that include Germany are valid for all trains of the Bahn (ICE/IC/EC). They are valid on most regional trains, but a few privatized lines do not except Eurail passes. Here is a list of privatized rail lines in Germany, and which ones accept Eurail passes.
