Rail Pass: Where to purchase

I live in Canada and what to make a reservation on a night train as well as regular day trains. We are going to buy our euro pass through a travel agent (I think) but what is the best/cheapest way to buy our reservations and night train in Canada???

You can try making your reservations thru the national rail companies, but you'll have to call them...depending on where you're travelling, that might be a problem. Or you can book them on-line at raileurope.com, but they are expensive. Euraide charges European rates, but adds a $50 flat fee for all reservations you make. Be aware that you may also be charged a supplement as well as a reservation fee....and that resevations allotted to passholders are limited. Have you researched point to point ticket costs for your trip? In many cases, it's cheaper than purchasing a Eurail pass.

Sarah; bought my BritRail and Eurail passes through Rick Steves (he includes a few freebies with the passes), and made my reservations for Thalys/TGV/overniters/etc. through my local travel agent. Maybe not the best or cheapest way but worked for me and I've got all my passes/tickets 'in hand' before I leave home next month. Worked out the various cost options vis-a-vis going direct in cyberspace to Trenitalia/SNCF/etc/etc and for the difference in price on a $10K, 1 month trip, I'll take the peace of mind and reduced frustrations by dealing with the 'experts'. That said, I figured out with much research which passes and reservations I needed and told RSteves & the travel agent, very specifically, what I wanted.
