Rail pass ticket or local train ticket

Planning a trip from Aachen to Munich for several days. Which is best, a German or multi country rail pass or local train travel. Can one get a local train ticket, lets say, from Aachen to Stuttgart, get off at several stops before continuing or does one have to complete the trip in one day?

Mary, doubt you need a rail pass just for journey like Aachen to Munich (even with some intermediate stops), since you can either buy discounted one-way ticket via German Rail website ( bahn.de), start from only 29 euro (and will allow you to make even an overnight stopover if you enter intermediate station you need) or just to rely on German group passes (either in regions - so called Lander Tickets or German wide Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket valid during weekdays or Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket during weekends)
Also would recommend to check this http://europetrainsguide.com/Countries/Germany/Germany-DB.html for some ideas on how to make your trips by train in Germany

Where else (and when) are you traveling by train? For this particular leg, you could take the fastest train (~5h30m) and pay only €45,00 (online, 3 months in advance, full fare €139,00). Waaaay less than the cost of a RailPass. For every stop, you must purchase another ticket for your next leg; sorry :-( No hop-on, hop-off with point point-to-point tickets.
