Rail Pass and Number of coutries

Hi, We're planning our first trip to Europe this summer ..Wanted to find out about the rail pass ..Our itinerary includes following stops ...not sure whether should we buy a 4 or 5 country rail pass? Do they consider stop point as 1 country or passing country is also considered? Paris to Interlaken Interlaken to Reutte in Tirol Reutte to Venice Venice to Florence
Florence to Rome Thanks for any help ...

With only two exceptions that I know of, if you "ride the rails" in a country, it needs to be included in a pass. It is possible to go from France to Switzerland to Austria to Italy (4 countries). However, Switzerland to Austria (Reutte) to Italy is a bit more complicated without going through German (5th country).

And as always... do the math to see if a rail pass is actually saving you money, or just making more money for the vendor. More often than not these days, it's the latter. I expect Lee will fill in the details about how to research costs (BTW, where's Tim from ND these days?)
