I have a "France-Italy" pass but will be starting my journey in Spain. My question is will my pass be valid from Figueres Vilafant to Montpellier (on a Frence TGV) and can I validate (first use) my railpass in Figueres? or I have to find other way and start my railpass from Cerbere. I understand that railpass should be valid to the border, but is Fugueres too far to be a border? My intentions are to travel from Barcelona to Marseille and arrive within the day or not too late at night.
I'm open to other alternatives. Thanks for all answers
You need to buy a ticket from Figueres to the first station where your train calls in France.
On the Eurail site, www.eurail.com, under countries, they list border stations outside a particular country, from which a pass for that country is valid. For France, Port Bou, Spain, is a border station. That is, you could use the pass from Port Bou to Montpellier. So, you will have to find some way to get from Figueres to Port Bou and pay for that separately. The train connections I found from Figueres to Perpignan, France, don't seem to stop in Port Bou There are connections from Perpignan to Port Bou, but that, Figueres to Perpignan to Port Bou, wouldn't work, so you'll have to find some way to get to Port Bou from Figueres. If the ticket office in Port Bou can validate a Eurail pass for Spain, they can validate one for France also. You don't have to have it validated in France.
