I'm going to be in the Interlaken region of Switzerland for 3 days next month. I'll be coming in from Paris and leaving by plane from Basel. I'm thinking of just buying point to point rail tickets but I was wondering if a Swiss Pass might be a better option. Does anyone know if there is a discount if I have a SwissRail pass when coming from Paris. Does the SwissRail pass allow you to take the train to Jungfrau? How about discounts on the cablecars?
RS guidebook switzerland gives good guidance on swiss rail/passes. you can also ck www.ricksteves.com/rail
But in gen 1 week on rail travel warrants a rail pass.
Swiss Pass will get you all the way from border of Switzerland as near to the Jungfrau as Wengen for 100% free. The remaining journey is 25% discount. Of course it will also get you all the way to Basel for free, too. If you plan to come to Switzerland and mainly stay in 1 region then a better option might be the Swiss Card which will cover your journey from the Swiss Border all the way to final destination on your arrival day (let's say Wengen). While your touring around on the region on the trains and gondolas, etc you'll get a 50% discount. On your last day to Basel your trip will be covered 100%. Yes, there is also a discount for the Jungfrau trip 25%-50%.
