Rail&fly with Lufthansa in Germany

http://www.lufthansa.com/uk/en/rail-and-fly-in-germany
You book an international flight into Germany and can get for a modest price train tickets:

  1. from your arrival airport to any train destination in Germany, and
  2. to your departure airport from any train destination in Germany.

Has anyone here used it?

One of the best features of the R&F tickets is that they are valid not only on the day of arrival / depature but also the day after / before. So you could, e.g., fly into Frankfurt, go to Erfurt and proceed to Berlin next day. And you can hop on any train as soon as you have arrived and are not bound to a specific train.

There are a number of other carriers that offer the R&F ticket too.

No, I haven't used it. When I first heard of it, I called Lufthansa, and they didn't know anything about it. Told me to talk to my travel agent! Now I see it is on the Lufthansa website for purchasing flights. After you select your flights, there is a box on the RH side of the page to add seat reservations, rental car, or rail tickets. Rail&Fly tickets are 33€, per person one way, billed in USD.

The nice thing about Rail&Fly is that the price is similar to a Savings Fare without being bound to a specific train, which you could miss if the flight was late.

I wonder if you could book a flight to Frankfurt and then take a ICE to Berlin. It looks like you could. I think a flight to Berlin might cost more than a flight to FRA plus a 33€ R&F ticket.

Lee, that works - of course. Flying is still faster, but at least from December on, there are going to be direct ICE connections from Frankfurt airport to Berlin.
