Rail Between Amsterdam and Bruges

My wife and I, aged 61 and 68, want to train from central Amsterdam to Bruges and return in late August next year. What are the cheapest tix, where do I find them, when should I book? I'm looking at 43€ one way, per ticket, per person. Surely there's a cheaper alternative. Thanks. Peter Tatiner

Peter, I just looked at on the belgium train sites and found a price for 36 E. but its for the middle of Nov 2013. im sure others will have more info for you. what you can do is to look at the date/times you leave. happy trails.

Thanks. The site I looked at would not allow bookings beyond April. But the price I quoted was for an Amsterdam-origination. I wonder if that matters. I'm thinking too that high season pricing will likely be higher. Oy.

43 Euros is a fair price. There are two way to make the journey. The first is via the high-speed Thalys train to Antwerp (or sometimes Brussels) and then catch a local train to Bruges. The Thalys uses airline style pricing so the sooner you book (90 days allowed) the cheaper it will be. The other option is via regular inter-city trains. They are a bit slower and require more connects en route to Antwerp. They don't need advance reservations so you can purchase tickets on the day of your journey at the station. If you book tickets for the the Thalys train early enough it can often be the same fare if not cheaper than the regular inter-city trains.
