Quickest travel from Venice to Nice?

Does anyone have suggestions for the fastest way to get from Venice to Nice? The train options we've looked at seem like 8-10 hrs, we prefer not to do an overnight train trip or spend all day traveling. Thanks !

Using several search engines, the only budget airline I found that flies from Venice to Nice is AlpiEagles. There is a change of planes in Naples so you actually have to book two separate tickets and this route is not available every day. Go to www.alpieagles.com for details.

What don't you like about taking the direct night train?

Thanks - I'll check their website, I hadn't heard of that airline. The night train may end up being our best bet, but we are 2 women traveling alone & so were a little concerned about safety, and it didn't sound like the most restful night's sleep. Appreciate your help!

Lisa: You're right, people often find that the overnight train is not the best night's sleep they ever had.

It looks like we may even save a little money - the air trip total time is 4 hrs even with a wait in Naples and cost 102 euros, the train trip is minimum 8 hrs and 1st class is 120 euros.

www.alpieagles.com if anyone's interested.

I see a train leaving Venezia Santa Lucia at 7:52am with one train change in Milan. 1st class fare is 76.50 Euro. 2nd class is 54 Euro. Journey time is 8hrs. 09mins.

So long as we're comparing prices, booked well in advance, the 2nd class Smart fare for the morning train is €36. Again booked well in advance, you can get a bed in a double sleeper on the night train for €85. The regular fare is €110. Couchette fares can be less than €50.
