I plan to take train from Munich to Salzburg by Bayern Ticket. There's 2 trains from DB website with "RJ"and "M" after 9 am. Someone told me with her experience that if take RJ by Bayern Ticket, I need to pay additionally when into the Austria section.Because Bayern Ticket doesn't cover the route out of Germany if the train is not under DB.And "RJ" means "Rail Jet" by OEBB. So I'm confused about the other choice "M".I don't know what is this "M" really means. Is it also under OEBB? Bayer Ticket available for this train without additional payment? Pls HELP!!~~~
RJ does mean RailJet and it is an Austrian train. RailJet is not a regional train. In Germany, it is considered to be in the class with the ICE, definitely not a local train - not covered anywhere in Germany by the Bayern-Ticket.
'M' is for Meridian, which is a regional train, and is covered by the Bayern-Ticket.
To avoid confusion, use the Bahn Query Page and select "only local (regional) transport".
To Lee,
its very clear with your reply and many thanks to you~
If you are by yourself, the Bayern-Ticket for one person costs 23€ (27€ for two). You can buy the Bayern-Ticket just before travel time with no specific train commitment.
OTOH, if you will already be in Munich (as opposed to just arriving at the airport) and can commit in advance to a specific train, you can advance purchase tickets for the RailJet on the Bahn website for as little as 19€ for single, 29€ for two, all for 2nd class. The Railjet goes non-stop from the Munich Hbf to Salzburg Hbf and is the fastest train to Salzburg. You can get the same advance purchase discounts for the Eurocity (EC) trains. They are only a little slower because they make a few stops, including Munich Ostbahnhof, which might be advantageous if you are staying on the east end of town.
