Questions about airfare prices...

Ok so this may be a stupid question, but here goes. So this September or October I was wanting to take a month long trip in Europe. My goal was to start/arrive in Germany first. My goal was to fly into Berlin. I live in Mississippi.... Ok so I was looking on Kayak just pricing tickets. Of course I put in all the information to arrive in Berlin. The price was 1,234. So with the same travel dates I checked other cities such as Helsinki 931$, Stockholm 940$, Oslo 936$, & Copenhagen 928$ I also look at several other sites such as Hotwire, Orbitz etc. The prices were about the same. If I compare prices for cities such as Berlin(1234) & Copenhagen(928) oh these prices include the taxes etc. Speaking for myself 306$ is a great savings, and that money saved can be applied to my eurail pass. What I would like to know is there a reason that Berlin cost so much more? Yes I wanted to start my trip in Germany, but with such a savings ill start in Denmark first. Does anyone know what the prices are cheaper?

There are only very few direct flights from the US to Berlin - and they are on smaller equipment. That's why they're more expensive. Much cheaper are flights to Frankfurt, Munich and to some extend Düsseldorf - all of which are in Germany. If you want to fly to Berlin check out www.airberlin.com

SAS is offering some good prices to Scandanavia, and sometimes to other cities in Europe connecting through Stockholm or Copenhagan. Check prices at their website. There are all kinds of quircky reasons prices vary. It costs an arm an leg to fly nonstop from Charlotte to Munich, but half as much if you connect through Philadelphia. Why? BMW.

Sam,
Hey. Yeah it's just crazy, but since I watch my spending most likely I shall fly into most likely Denmark first. Speaking for myself 300$ is good bit money to save.

But be carefully about wasting your $300 saving on an Eurail pass. Do your homework to make sure that a pass is cost effective. That is not always a given in these days of supplement pass charges and advance purchase discounts.

hi, im heading over to the same area this Sept and my R/T to AMS is 1300. I found out last year that there are direct flights to AMS from PDX so im using that as much as possible. I also learned for myself that i prefer direct if possible and if the costs are too expensive. If youre going to be mobile in europe, then looking at flying into different cities can save or cost more. Since youre going to buy a rail pass, its sort of moot to be fixated flying into Berlin. look at traveling in a path of some type and also keep in mind airfairs in/out of those cities. i found that intercity travel as long as they are nearby is inexpensive. Also, trains maybe better than air. just an fyi, there is a bullet train that goes thru Hamburg to CPH that i plan on taking. They decouple the cars and put them on a ferry and then recouple them on the other side. Im going the reverse route, but i thought it was a cool thing to experience and you spend the sea voyage in the ferry, not the cars. happy trails.

If you can get yourself to Miami cheaply, Air Berlin has direct flights to Berlin for under $900 in September; even less if you go later and return in October.
