Question on Swiss pass

Hi I am considering a flexi Swis pass for my trip. The swiss pass offers 50% discount for lifts above Murren and 25% above Wengen. However, when I buy these discounted lift/cable tickets, a day would not be used from my flexi swiss pass right? As usual, thanks for responses. This forum has been great. Regards

Sam, you keep wishing and hoping in a couple of posts that riding certain types of transportation will not use up a day on your pass. For the most part, it definitely will. The Swiss conductors will mark your pass. Question, while in Interlaken Ost, do you plan on going up to the top of the Jungfrau ($190) and/or the Schilthorn ($90)? If yes, I suggest a Swiss pass or card while in Switzerland. If not, you may not incur enough train fares to need one. You need at least 220CHF in Swiss train fares before you break even on the least expensive Swiss pass or card. If it looks like you will need a Swiss pass or card of some type, I suggest that you buy the Swiss 1/2-fare card while in Chamonix-Mt. Blanc. Chamonix-Mt. Blanc is one of a few places not in Switzerland where you can buy one. It costs 110CHF and is good for 30 days. It's good on all Swiss transportation that you list in your previous post. You can use it right from Chamonix all the way up to your exit into Italy on the Bernina Express.

Thanks Larry. From what I read -http://www.ricksteves.com/rail/switzerland.cfm "The Swiss Flexipass gives you the same coverage on ed "travel days" during a one-month window, plus 50% transport discounts in between those days (great for days focused on high-mountain lifts and short or unplanned side trips)." Well, since it says "plus 50% discounts in between those days", my understanding is a day should NOT be burned up from the flexi pass when going from Interlaken to Jungfrau or Schilthorn (I plan to go both). Isn't that correct? Also, I will be making 220$ worth train travel in switzerland, so I think Swiss Pass would work out cheaper for me. Thanks

I have to disagree with Larry on this. A Swiss Flex Pass can be used for a 50% discount ( or 25 % on the Jungfraujoch) without using up a day on the pass. See the advisory on this website that says " between first and last day of use, the Flex Pass operates as a half- fare card". Swisstravelsystem.com says the same thing: a Flex Pass can be used for 50% off mountain lifts, trains, boat, etc. without using up a covered day on the pass.

Sam, I misunderstood your question above. Lola is correct.
