Question - Munich Hauptbahnhof

Does the Munich Hauptbohnhof station have storage accommodations for luggage? The closest R. Steves comes to discussing this point in his Germany guidebook is the sentence "You'll find two tourist information offices and lockers (€2, tracks 18, 26, 31)." Are the lockers he mentions for temporary luggage storage?

What do you mean, "Are the lockers he mentions for temporary luggage storage?".

No, you put your luggage in there and it's in there permanently. You can never get it back out.

Of course it's temporary storage. €2 for 24 hrs. The lockers, called Schliessfächer, auf Deutsch, are down a hallway from the LH end, looking from the tracks, of the main "barn" of the station. Behind that is a "left luggage" (not to be confused with right luggage) room, where you can check your luggage for longer periods.

We checked a very large piece of luggage into the storage facility for 5 days...we jetted off to Venice and really LOVED not having to drag around that big suitcase for the duration of Venice.

German stations are great for leaving baggage even for just a few hours such as Heidelberg or Rothenberg ob der Tauber where you might just want to spend a few hours and visit specific sites without hauling bags around.

Thanks for the info. I was just trying to find out if the Hauptbahnhof lockers Rick Steves mentions are for luggage. In any case, Lee, you can always tell the difference between temporary lockers and permanent lockers - the permanent ones have much bigger locks.
