Question for those who have had flights to Europe cancelled....

How far in advance were you notified of the cancellation? I have a feeling it's been within a day or two of the flight...just wondering.

We are scheduled to fly to Munich in 3 weeks. Delta.

Are you checking your flights every Sunday? I have seen various things that say Delta loads changes on Saturday so I make it part of my Sunday routine to check to see if there are any changes.

Do not count on getting a notification from Delta. I've always signed up for notifications and certainly get enough marketing emails from them but never, ever, get an email on a schedule change. This is still my preferred airline...just saying.

Were notified today and our flight is not until December 2nd. We are flying Seattle to Munich. The return flight was not cancelled, but the two flights to get there. A phone call to Delta got it resolved.

The night before we departed. Luckily we noticed the cancellation when we happened to check the app, and we have a good travel agent who answered her phone on a Sunday and then found an alternative. This was American Airlines at the end of June.

Had a flight home to Seattle from Frankfurt on Lufthansa--for October 1--cancelled. The computer scheduled us to fly from Frankfurt to Munich, not Seattle. Got an email telling us about the cancellation on July 20. Called on July 21 to get a flight to Seattle and they did, after repeated calls, get us scheduled and told us the ticketing would be completed in 72 hours and then we could select on seats.

At about the 72 hour mark, my husband noticed our credit card had been credited for the cost of our tickets and I later discovered the confirmation numbers of our electronic tickets were no longer listed on the flight itinerary. After multiple calls found out that we indeed no longer have tickets because they accidentally refunded our ticket cost instead of the seat selection charge. We were told we have to start over finding a flight. We were not notified of this; it was only through checking our credit card that we found it out,

Strangely, we still have a booking showing flights and today, for a lark, I checked our booking. One of our flights have been cancelled and another one substituted. Again no notification. Since we have no tickets I am not sure why they are doing this. Lufthansa seems to be having major problems communicating with the different parts of their organization and with their would-be passengers.

Domestic flights can be canceled for any reason and I’ve had them cancelled on me months, weeks and hours in advance. International flights are a different story and I have only had one international flight canceled because of weather (a blizzard) and was able to change the itinerary immediately as I chose to fly a day earlier to Heathrow to miss that blizzard. I follow Delta on Facebook and they had made an announcement several days in advance.

Our Sept , 2021, flight to Heathrow ( already 3 hours delayed) was canceled 30 minutes AFTER we boarded - there is no "safe" zone.

I am wondering why anyone is flying now with all this sort of travel chaos.
To me it is the same as we all wondered about traveling when covid was so prominent.

Mary,

Check your Delta app. It is possible you could get a change or cancel as you are heading to the airport like I did last month. No email, no text. You may only know by checking the app frequently. Pull down the screen until you see that it is updated. if you do get a change of itinerary, be careful to note the dates. My offerings were for the following day. I ended up taking the flight from St. Louis via Salt Lake City to get to London that day. At least I was starting my journey even if I was going West to go East. Delta did upgrade me to Comfort + on the first leg so I didn't complain.

Thanks

Thanks, all. I received both a text and an email when they changed the flight to leave 10 minutes later a couple months ago.

I've been checking flight status for our flight every now and then, and they seem to depart close to on time. We're flying out of Detroit and we've had good luck there in the past. We allowed a couple extra days for delays, so I'm not too worried about it. Just wondering.....

I was notified about my September flight last week, seven weeks in advance.
Not by email though, till a few hours after I had checked it on the KLM website.
It was cancelled and rebooked ......but not to my liking.
I did get it changed to my liking for a day later than planned.
Awaiting further notices........

I received notice today from United that the return leg of my October trip has been cancelled. (As my Mom commented, I guess I'll just have to live in Portugal :-) I am taking the opportunity to extend my trip by 1 night, the most that's allowed.
