Ok I was messing around on the site. I chose greatbrittan then went through the process and chose canada as my country and walked through the steps and it appears that they will send the tickets to canada.
I thought the only way was to pick up or have them shipped to a UK address.
boy they make this confusing...LOL
I just did a dummy booking and chose Canada. Sure enough, I could have had tickets mailed to Canada.
However, when I did a dummy booking and chose the USA, I was bumped to Rail Europe (just as I expected).
Maybe it's time to make a move north! :)
Actually, what's it's really time for is to have SNCF (which operates the tgv-europe site) include the USA on its "mailing list" and to quit forcing people who don't know better to pay Rail Europe's higher fares.
that is interesting.
I am wondering if this is new because I have seen others from Canada reference before about not being able to have them mailed.
I am wondering what the best to do...either mail them through TGV-Europe or through Italrail
I am booking night train florence-paris and a train venice-florence.
Is the fare with tgv-europe cheaper than with Italiarail? If so, book with tgv-europe and have your tickets sent to you in Vancouver.
There is no need to book Venice-Florence tickets in advance. You'll have many choices all day long.
I will have to compare the prices when it is time.
Right now Italarail's site is not working and I assume it is because of the changes in the schedule and they have not uploaded the new schedule.
But based on what I was looking at previously on their site it was still cheaper than tgv-europe
When I logged into TGV-europe.com I just picked Great Britain, and then the site allowed me to print tickets on my printer.
They honored those tickets just like any other ticket.
They also said that I could pick up copies of the ones I printed at the TGV station.(In case I lost mine.)
I just took a train from Florence to Venice on my trip a week ago. We got our tickets from a self serve ticket computer at the station the night before and paid 36 euros each for the Eurostar.
what is funny is I sent them an email to confirm and they told me that that don't ship to canada. yet the web site indicates something else.
so I guess if I book with them I can just pick them up at the station???
bluedenim,
Why the tgv-europe Web site now allows tickets to be mailed to Canada when the e-mail you got said that is not possible is beyond me.
If you book on the tgv-europe site and choose to pick up your Firenze-Paris night train tickets in Italy, you will be given a booking page in Italian and you will have to provide a mailing address in Italy. You will NOT be able to pick up the tickets at the station.
IMO, your best options are to either choose Great Britain and have your tickets sent to your hotel in Manchester or to choose Canada and have them mailed to your home in Vancouver (assuming the Web site will let you complete the booking when you choose Canada).
Or better yet, if the tickets are cheaper with Italiarail, book with them.
Ya that is what I thought was funny too. At least I have a few months before I will be booking these tickets but want to have it figured out before hand.
I actually think I could send them to an address in manchester with no problem.
that or use Italia rail like I said but again their site is still having issues. I think the price is roughly the same or even a bit cheaper.
I want to avoid rail europe.
