Does anyone know if I can purchase the Happy Weekend ticket at the Warnemunde Werft (dockyard) train station? This will be the only time I am in Germany on this trip and just for the day off cruise ship. We arrive at 6:00 and leave at 11:00 so we really want to do this.

No, I don't think you can buy a Schoenes-Wochenende-Ticket in Denmark. If you call German Rail, the person who answers might not speak English, but if you say English they will probably have an English operator on the line shortly. The online Bahn Shop is entirely in German, but it is not that hard to figure out.

I've never seen a train station in Germany that didn't have some sort of ticket automat. I doubt that Warnemunde is the exception.

If all they have is a blue/white regional ticket automat, you will find "Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket on one of the two columns of buttons on the RH side (probably near the bottom of the right hand column). When you press that button, the screen will display "Heute" (today), "Morgen" (tomorrow), or "Andere" (another day). Press the number after Andere (3?) on the keypad and it will show you a calendar to select the day you want to use the Ticket.

If they have a red/white/blue DB automat, the one with the touchscreen display, touch the British flag for English and follow the instructions.

You can easily buy these from the machines located at the airport or train station. They are touch screen and switch into English. You do not need to find a Deutsche Bahn Travel Agent. If you do not want to use the ticket machine, the you can get the ticket from the DB counter, which will be at every airport and every decent sized city.

Jo, thanks so much. Will try at Copenhagen when we arrive. Didn't know they would switch to English.

Copenhagen is in Denmark. You need to be in Germany to buy this Happy Weekend Ticket unless something has changed.

Lee?? Where are you to answer this?

BTW, if they have a ticket counter as well as an automat, avoid the temptation to just go up to the counter. Learn to use the automat. For the Schoenes-Wochenende- and Laender-Tickets, they charge €2 more at the counter for "personal service".

Lee, Thanks so much for all your help. I really tried the German site for ticket, but even with help from Google translation, couldn't master it. I will use the machine at station and printed your instructions.

You can go to the German Rail website. It's in English. Use any start and destination in Bavaria, (it doesn't really matter because the B-T is a ticket for travel all over Bavaria, I used 2 people, Munich to Fuessen, "only local transport" but do use the correct date). It should lead you, in English, through the steps to have the B-T mailed to your home.

On the other hand, it is so easy to just buy it at the station. I assume you are getting off in Warnemunde and getting the ticket that day to use from there. Use the automat. You can see an example of the Munich metro automat on my website at www.germantravel-info.com/mvv_auto2.htm. The one at Warnemunde won't be exactly the same, but it will be similar.

You have given me an idea. I went to the Bahn Ticketshop and went through the ordering process. It's not that hard in German, there are only a few words to know, but you have to find them in all of the other words. I think I will capture a few screens and add "ordering from the Bahnshop" to my website under FAQs.
