I am having trouble purchasing a rail ticket for Spain travel. The purchase will not go through on RENFE.es. I called the CC company - they said it is not being rejected, but I don't think it is getting that far. I tried to do the VISA Verification, but my card is not eligible. RailEurope wants about $10 more per ticket + shipping.
I checked the rumbo.es site, and did not see an option to purchase rail tickets. Any help anyone can offer?
I also could not purchase on Renfe but was able to on Rumbo.es. Keep trying at different time of day. I had to call my credit card company and have them approve the purchase.
To purchase on Rumbo.es you must use the website in Spanish. Go to "Trenes" and you'll see where to enter your point of origin, destination, etc. Renfe seems to be quirkier than usual these days but Rumbo should work.
I was able to find it on Rumbo in Spanish. The price was more than RENFE and the same as Rail Europe. I wonder if I am better off waiting until I get there to purchase?
When are you traveling? I bought first class tickets from Barcelona to Madrid for 100 euros. The tourist tickets were 56 euros at that time. I wouldn't wait until you get there as it will be more expensive and popular routes sell out.
Rumbo passes on the web discounts (if available) and the price should be the same as Renfe + a small handling fee (depends on the cost of the ticket.) I don't know why it is coming up higher for you becasue I've never seen that. (And actually the price on Rumbo is usually 5 euros less than on Renfe to partially offset the handling charge. Actually, if you aren't getting the Web or Estrella fare there is little if any benefit to uying in advance, unless you are concerned the train may sell out. That rarely happens on the routes with frequent trains (between Madrid and Barcelona and Madrid and Sevilla, etc.) What route are you trying to buy, and what date?
