I'm flying from Rome with a connection to Philly here in the U.S. I heard you could purchase items such as wine and other liquids in the "secure" areas at the airport to pack in your carry on. What happens though when I land in Philly? Will they allow me to keep it it my carry on when I make my connection?
Nope. Too much liquid for the TSA rules. Switch it to the checked luggage.
The place you buy such stuff is in what's called the duty free shops, which are past the security check points.
You will have to put it in your check luggage after you have gone through immigrations and customs in Philly because you have to go through security before boarding your domestic flight.
I didn't think I would have access to my luggage in Philly. I thought I would remain in the secure area until I land in Chicago and whatever was in my carry on would be the same as it was in Italy.
Philly will be your aerodome of entry. You'll get your checked stuff and tote it through customs. Repack after customs and either give it to an airline dude to be put on your next flight or carry it yourself and check it. I suspect the first, but I can't remember ever coming back through PHL except light.
Ed, your 'aerodome' reminds me of the velodrome in the movie, "Rollerball".
Pretty accurate comparison, I'd say. LOL
When you shop in the airport, make sure they seal the liquids in their special plastic bags. Otherwise they are likely to be confiscated on boarding.
