We're flying to Istanbul out of Stuttgart airport but are planning to park the car on one of the Army bases in Stuttgart...Patch Barracks, Kelley Barracks, or Panzer Barracks. We've never been out to those bases and aren't familiar with the S-Bahn, U-Bahn or other stops near there. Does anyone know the closest stop to any of the bases?
I don't know where any of these bases are, but complete information about the Stuttgart metro system can be found at www.vvs.de.
I've checked but unfortunately the bases aren't marked on the map so I can't figure out what stop is nearby. I've also looked for a street map that also has the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and bus stops marked but no luck there either. Parking will cost 50 Euros at the airport, which is why I was really trying to park on base, but I may have to figure something else out if I can't come up with something. Thanks for your help though!
If you use the VVS website and input Kelley Barracks or Patch Barracks and Stuttgart Flughafen you can get a routing to the airport. Looks like there is first a bus connecting to an S-Bahn from there but you will need something else (Taxi) to the first bus stop.
German transportation often have Park n Ride lots spread out throughout the town. See if you can find on of those at an S-Bahn stop.
Better yet, just get in the public transportation network in Mannheim and go from there. You can do the entire trip (from Mannheim to the Stuttgart Airport using a Baden-Württemberg-Ticket for €27 (complete for up to five people).
You know that for international flights on TUIfly and Germanwings you can buy a €19 one-way ticket on DB German rail (incl. High Speed ICEs and local transportation to the airport) per person one way from anywhere in Germany?
Hi Mandi. I went to school in Stuttgart and my opinion is this: Park at Patch. Either take a taxi, or find the nearest bus stop outside of post and take it to the Vaihingen S-bahn stop. That S-bahn will take you right to the airport without having to change trains. Email me if you have questions!
Thanks Amy! That definitely helps. How funny...I used to live in Clarksville before we moved here!
Thanks Andreas...I didn't know that. That's good to know for the future. We're flying Swiss Air this time but that's awesome to know for Germanwings!
Mandi, I agree with Amy, Patch is the easiest bet. The closest bus stop is Kurmärker Kaserne (use that on the VVS website). Walking out the main gate, go down to Pascalstr and turn right. The bus stop is just on the other side of the bridge; catch the 84 or 751 coming down the hill, going towards Vaihingen Bahnhof. At the bahnhof, you can catch the S-Bahn and go all the way to the Flughafen. Sorry I didn't see this sooner!
