Public transportation around Varenna

Help!
I see I can use bus D20 from Esino/Perledo into Varenna, but then my only option are to take ferries from there? If walking onboard, which is cheapest?

Also, the easiest fastest(and economical) route to see Switzerland quickly via public transport.

From where? Varenna? Based on one of your previous posts, this might be a day trip from Milan? Where in Switzerland do you want to go (it's a big country) and how much time do you have to do that in? How 'quick' does your trip need to be?

You can take a ferry to Menaggio on the other side of the lake and then a bus to Lugano, Switzerland.

Yes, ferries are one of the joys of visiting Lake Como, you are free of cars and buses. A train does arrive at Varenna but then to get to Bellagio where we always stay, we take a ferry.

Staying only a few days this weekend in Varenna and arrived by train. Is it worth popping up to Switzerland or too much time and trouble? It isn't about where we go as much as it is time and distance.
