Please help me. I will be traveling from Barcelona to Madrid in September. (I would also like to get from Madrid to Seville, and then eventually from Granada to Toledo.) I was going to drive, because it's cheap, but I have read about, and been advised, that it is possible to take the AVE from Barcelona to Madrid for a 32.eu promo fare. I can't seem to come up with that price. Every time I enter my travel info--Bar to Mad, on 4 Sept, 12:00--I get 213.eu. Any one know how to get the promo prices? Will you please help me navigate the train site? Thank you.
The train is operated by RENFE, so start with their website: http://www.renfe.com/. Here's an extensive TripAdvisor tutorial on how to use it: http://tinyurl.com/cu48wk5 Near the bottom of that TripAdvisor page, they explain that if you can't get RENFE's site to work for you, you can use http://petrabax.com/renfe/, http://www.palacetours.com/renfe, or http://www.rumbo.es (the last won't hotlink for some reason). Others here have had mixed results with RENFE, and report success with these other sites in those cases. They are not quite as cheap as RENFE (they're resellers), but still cheaper than buying a pass.
