I wondered if anyone else is having problems with Trenitalia today. I tried signing in with my account, and got an error that the username or password were incorrect. I changed the password, just in case. Same error. After several tries, I gave up and created a NEW account, with new username and email address. They sent me a temporary password, which I successfully changed. On the page where you pick your train, I was prompted to re-enter username & password, and then I got the error message again. I closed my browser and tried logging in again with that new account. Same error message. I set up a THIRD account, using my husband's email account. Same problem. Whether I try to log in initially on the site, or wait until I've picked my train and get to the authentication box, I get the "incorrect username or password" message. I tried purchasing a ticket without registering, and was prompted to register. I then tried all three accounts on a DIFFERENT computer. Same issue. I cannot figure out what I might be doing wrong, so I'm thinking perhaps Trenitalia is having a problem with its authentication process?? I'd appreciate hearing if anyone else was successful on the site this afternoon (starting about 4 pm MDT). Thanks. They have some 9€ tickets from Milan to Senigallia which I would love to buy!
There should be a category called "Problems with Trenitalia"... I just wanted to pass along some info from RonInRome.com, in case you haven't seen it AND you manage to get registered...It concerns retrieving tickets if your PNR code never arrives in your email. That would have been midnight in Italy; maybe there's some batch-processing going on or something. Or they do some other kind of maintenance on their system; heaven knows it could use it ;-) Good luck (fingers crossed)!
I have been able to log in okay but trenitalia will not let me book anything at all at the moment. I'm able to look up trains and select them to move forward with the booking process but after I select the train I want I'm unable to get beyond step 2 in the booking process (I keep getting "We are sorry: it is not possible to make your reservation. Try again later.")
.. Blah
It has to be a Trenitalia problem. I read all of the "Ron in Rome" article, and it looks like I was doing everything correct. I cleared all of my cookies today, reset my security to accept all cookies, registered a 4th time, with yet another email address and user ID. I was able to log in initially, but when it came time to complete the booking, I was forced to log-in again and got the "invalid username/password" message. So I called Trenitalia (via Skype) and made my booking ... but I was supposed to get a confirmation email within 2 hours, and that was 5 hours ago. The lady I spoke with was pretty fluent in English but I still don't have a lot of confidence that everything will be correct ... I ended up booking two different trips ... did she get my VISA number right? Did she understand my email address correctly?? I do have my PNR number, which hopefully is right. It only cost me about 20 cents for the call; I have a feeling there will be several more before this is settled. I keep asking myself if this was worth it to save about 100 €, and I guess it probably is. But what a hassle!
I am having the same problem. I register and get an e-mail with a temperary password. I change the password, but can't logon. When I click on "Password smarrita?," I get an e-mail, but my password is now all caps. Neither the original or the all cap' version works.
I tried again at 6:00 AM (1:00 PM in Italy) and bought two sets of tickets on the 1st try.
I tried yesterday, just for fun, and the site appeared to be working just fine. After emailing Trenitalia, I finally got my email confirmation today, but one ticket is for the wrong date! So I emailed them back and hopefully they will fix it. I bought super economy tickets so they are not changeable/refundable. This is not a fun experience!
OK, here's what I've learned. When the Trenitalia website works, it works great. I just bought tickets in about 2 minutes. So if you try to buy a ticket and have trouble logging in, or get error messages, just step away from the computer and try again a day or two later. Buying over the telephone is not recommended. Even though they see a US-originating call, and speak English, there can be confusion. It took 2 emails and another phone call to finally get my email confirmation, (they had my email address wrong) and then the tickets they issued were for the wrong day! Since they were super economy tickets, two more emails gave me apologetic but firm refusals to change/refund the tickets. So since we're only talking 18€ I decided to cut my losses and just buy two more tickets. Which I did, easily. Whew! Glad that's over.
"When the Trenitalia website works, it works great." I think you've stolen MY line LOL! Same thing goes for tgv-europe.com (French rail tickets)...When it's acting up, just.back.away.slowly.and.try.again.later. I'm glad you got your tickets! Even if they cost you a little extra...;-)
