My cousins and I spent a week in Genoa, Italy hoping to find our ancestral home and graves. We speak little Italian. We hired a private taxi service to take us to Varese Ligure, about an hours drive from Genoa. We could have taken train/bus, but we would not have been able to get as much done as we did! We hired Ivandro Bosio, Autonoleggio NCC (388 1971895-342 1796845) to drive us there. His English, though maybe not fluent, was very good and we had no problem understanding each other. When we reached Varese Ligure, he went into the town hall with us and interpreted to the people in archives what we were looking for. They gave us the best information they could, but told him of the local church and gave him the priests name. Ivandro called the priest and set up an appt that day for us to meet with him. We met with the priest and then found that there was a graveyard associated with the church that might have some of our ancestors buried in it. Ivandro helped us look through the cemetery, calling us when he discovered a name he knew we were looking for. Ivandro went well above and beyond being a taxi driver. He was our tour guide - our interpreter. He also took us to our ancestral family's house, which was still standing. Had we not had his help, we might never have realized our heritage. I'd recommend him for service. He does airport transfers, etc., and is quite reliable.
Thank you for that great recommendation! We'll be in Genoa in the fall visiting our relatives there. Although I won't be needing a driver, I'm going to file that info away for future reference. Thanks!
(We've been to Varese Ligure! Have a great picture of us standing on the bridge with the gorgeous river and scenery behind us.)
