Has anyone hired a private driver to pick them up at FCO in Rome and drive to Sorrento. Wondering what the fee would be for a driver and if it's worth the convenience. There are six of us traveling late September. Also, any referrals would be apprciated.
You really don't want to take public transportation, do you? ;-) Here's one: http://www.sorrentosilverstar.com/ Here's another: http://www.sorrentoprivatedriver.com/index.htm I just Googled 'private driver Rome to Sorrento' and got a bunch! I doubt there are many on this Helpline that have done this...but you'll probably hear from someone. The first one was a recommendation from a poster on Trip Advisor.
Since this is my first time traveling to Italy, the others have been there before, and since I'm planning this trip I want it to be as hassle-free and enjoyable as possible, so the idea of a private driver from the airport to Sorrento just popped into my head. Thanks for the reply.
It will not be cheap. Sorrento is some distance away even starting at the airport. For a price you can do anything. And with six people and luggage you will need more than car. You will need a small van.
My daughter and I hired a limo to take us from Naples airport to our B & B in Amalfi, as we arrived in Naples at 9.45pm. From memory (as it was 2004), the cost was approx. 130 euros. We thought it was worth the money and appreciated the convenience at this hour of night. With 6 of you sharing the cost, go for it!
July of 2011 our family of 8 adults hired a driver from our hotel in Rome to Pompeii and Sorrento and Naples. We used "Your Tour in Italy" and they were fantastic! So professional, helpful, wonderful (and incredibly handsome!) english-speaking guide. They couldn't do enough for us. I'm sure they'd accommodate you pickup at the airport. Check out their website and/or just email them: http://www.yourtourinitaly.com/joomla/ See my review on TA at: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187791-d1592542-r125442278-Your_Tour_In_Italy_Private_Tours-Rome_Lazio.html
